As part of the Developing Future Builders program, Central Minnesota
Builders Association (CMBA) has set aside $4500 in 2007 for area high
schools. The CMBA considered requests from Albany, Apollo, Becker,
Kimball, Melrose, Rocori, Sartell and St. Cloud Tech.
Tech is using the funding to take carpentry and cabinet making
students to the State Skills USA competitions. Others are using
the funds for field trips to job sites, speakers, purchasing an
air sander and finish nailer to build cabinets for the classroom,
financial help to replace an old table saw, materials for a repair
project for a family in need and to purchase safety tools and supplies.
This is the fourth year that CMBA has provided this funding.
Developing Future Builders is an educational project of the CMBA.
The program was developed to promote understanding about the wide
variety of jobs associated with building and selling a home, skill
levels required, wages, benefits offered and career paths available.
And the program intends to enhance the learning experience for high
school students and benefits of working in the building industry
as a career destination. CMBA is a non-profit trade association
representing approximately 600 members in an eight county area.
