Community Events & Volunteering

The CMBA, St. Cloud Times and Leighton Broadcasting endorse project Playhouse in support of the free enterprise education programs of Junior Achievement. Over 2,700 children in the St. Cloud area learned about business and entrepreneurship through a JA program taught by one of 127 local volunteers in 2004.

CMBA members have built a better community since 1971 by volunteering their time and materials. Since 1990, CMBA was instrumental in collecting over 45 tons of food and donated approximately $51,000 in cash contributions for the areas food shelves as well as $22,000 to Habitat for Humanity.

A ribbon cutting ceremony took place at the new larger Sartell warming house at the Val Smith Park. The Sartell skaters will have more room to warm-up while at the ice rink. The Central Minnesota Builders Association (CMBA), a group of builders, building material suppliers and building service suppliers donated time and material to make this a reality for the City of Sartell.

CMBA member donations of labor, materials and money made it possible to complete the Clemens Gardens Gift Shop in a little more than a year, providing an important piece for future funding of St. Cloud's most popular tourist attraction. The 900-square-foot shop is expected to generate $50,000 a year from busloads of tourists who each summer visit the Clemens Gardens and adjoining Munsinger Gardens along the Mississippi River.

Members of the CMBA embraced the Lake George revitalization project through the Rotary Club of St. Cloud. The area has become the gathering place of the St. Cloud community with many cultural and special events.

CMBA members donated labor, materials and funds, as they did for the Clemens Gift Shop project to construct one of the few firesafe homes in Minnesota. The one-level, 8-by-24 mobile trailer unit, resembling a home inside, illustrates several fire and safety hazards.

The 20’x24’ building is located next to the women’s shelter in St. Cloud. The shelter will provide safety to dogs/cats/small animals that are pets of families seeking shelter. Many times the victims refuse help because they cannot bring their pets which are often a target of the abusers retaliation.
